We had an opportunity to visit Ireland through Leonardo Project and contact between KADE and Kainuun Ammattiopisto. Ms Mary McGillicuddy from KADE friendly arranged us the placement in Bud's Family and Community Centre.
We set four outcomes to the two week-long visit: Outcome 1 was to create a contact with at least one day-care centre, where Kainuun Ammattiopisto can send students for work placements in the future. Outcome 2 will be a presentation about the Irish day-care and school system. Outcome 3 will be a deeper understanding of development education and the Millennium Goals. Outcome 4 was having knowledge and ideas about Irish community work through Bud’s Family and Community Resource Centre.
Living in same Europe but opposite sides and fringe area, Irish and Finns are in same situation. Comparing families’ situations, education, problems and good things, living in generally, was an interesting journey not only to Irish culture but it opened also our cultural eyes to our own culture. Travelling broadens the mind!
At the end of the visit we are very pleased to our visit and our widen knowledge of Irish childcare and pre- school system (and Irish educational system generally). We gratefully thank everyone who made this possible, especially Mary from KADE, Nora and Karina from Bud's Family and Community Centre.
