KADE is a member of The Irish Coalition for the Global Campaign for Education (ICGCE) who’s focus is to raise awareness in Ireland of the Education for All agreements in the education sector and in broader Irish society.

Visions of Africa 2011 travels to Dublin for exhibition at the Irish Aid Volunteering & Information Centre. Opening on November 2nd, the Centre will feature the Visions of Africa 2011 images for the month of November.

Irish Aid is coordinating its Our World Irish Aid Awards for primary schools in Ireland. The overall purpose of the programme is to raise awareness among Irish pupils of the lives of children and their families in developing countries. By taking part, children can learn how Ireland works with these countries as partners for development.

We had an opportunity to visit Ireland through Leonardo Project and contact between KADE and Kainuun Ammattiopisto.  Ms Mary McGillicuddy from KADE friendly arranged us the placement in Bud's Family and Community Centre.

Africa Day is celebrated on the 25^th May worldwide. The date commemorates the 1963 founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which, in July 2002, was succeeded by the present African Union, while amalgamating with the African Economic Community (AEC). The aim of Africa Day is to challenge perceptions of Africa and promote a more comprehensive understanding of the diverse culture that springs from this vast continent; the emphasis is on celebrating the positive.

One World Week is an opportunity for people from diverse backgrounds to come together to learn about global justice, to spread that learning and to use it to take action for justice locally and globally.

Fairtrade is transforming the lives of millions of farming families in developing countries and this is down to the passionate commitment of Fairtrade supporters, stockists and companies around the world. Show off and in doing so, encourage others to follow in your footsteps.

KADE will host an upcoming Cluster Day at The Education Centre, Tralee on Friday October 22^nd. Students will examine fair trade, the UN Millennium Development Goals and intercultural issues.

Irish Aid , the Government’s overseas aid programme, is hosting a multimedia exhibition, Khulungira: Harvesting Hope in an African Village, at this year’s National Ploughing Championships which take place in Athy, Co. Kildare from September 21st to 23rd. The exhibition, which features videos, slideshows and photographs, introduces the people of Khulungira village in Malawi who have benefited from advances in agricultural research.

Castleisland Mayor Cllr. Bobby O'Connell has launched the Castleisland exhibition of the 2010 Visions of Africa. This annual exhibition features 30 striking images which portray a positive image of Africa. The exhibition runs at Castleisland LIbrary from June 8th - 22nd. The Tralee exhibition was opened by the Mayor of Tralee, Cllr. Terry O’ Brien.

AONTAS, the Irish National Association of Adult Education, recently commissioned research called 'Integrating Development into Adult Education', which is now available.

IT Tralee student, Alan Burns, is currently volunteering in Nepal. Alan is working with just-one and has been aided in his efforts by The Omprakash Foundation. Below are excerpts from Alan's online blog.

Congress's biennial Conference visits Tralee. ICTU has been promoting its Development Education project, Global Solidarity, widely at the Conference. The aim of the project is to strengthen Congress' and the affiliated unions' international solidarity work, as well as to play an important role in raising awareness of the causes of exploitation, inequality, poverty and climate change.

Mr. Peter Power, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs with responsibility for Overseas Development Aid  officially opened the KADE photographic exhibition, ‘Visions of Africa’ in Mary Immaculate College, Limerick on Thursday, February 5 at 7:00 p.m. Mary Immaculate College of Education President Peadar Cremin invited KADE to display the exhibit in the college.

Kerry Mayor Tom Fleming was presented a copy of with the KADE Millennium Development Goals information poster Monday, Oct 13, 2008 in Council Chambers in Tralee by KADE Chairman Sean Lyons and KADE Education Officer Ciara O’Connor. The poster forms part of KADE’s Co. Kerry awareness campaign about the UN Goals. They will be circulated to every school in Kerry, as well as community development organisations, churches, businesses and posted on the KADE website. The Goals, which relate to basic development  essentials such as education and health, were set by the UN in 2000 with an intended achievement date in 2015.

25 teachers and teacher trainers from Cyprus, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Scotland and Ireland participated in a workshop on Development Education in Kaunas/ Lithuania from the 19th until the 23rd of October, 2008. The workshop was part of the EuropeAid funded project ‘Accessing Development Education’, coordinated by Future Worlds Center (Cyprus) in partnership with Youth Career and Advising Centre (Lithuania), ScotDec (Scotland), KADE (Ireland) and C.E.G.A. (Bulgaria). The project’s main aim is to engage educators and schools in Development Education activities and equip them with relevant training and materials, thus making them promoters and multipliers of national campaigns that aim to create awareness about Development and about global interdependencies.
