The theme for TEDxTralee 2013 - to be held on March 6th at Meadowlands Hotel, Tralee - is The Value of Development Education. KADE is the key TEDxTralee event partner. KADE marks its 20th anniversary in 2013, a fitting year to hold TEDxTralee, which highlights the importance of Development Education. This one day event aims to bring people together to learn, share their ideas and their achievements, and address the importance of Development Education.

On the last day of October, Phil Prendergast MEP visited Kerry One World Centre in Tralee to show her interest in and support for Development Education and active global citizenship. The meeting was an opportunity to discuss the range, and explain the value, of Development Education in general and the centre’s activities in particular.

The Our World Irish Aid Awards is an exciting awards programme established by Irish Aid in 2005 to increase primary pupils’ awareness and understanding of global development issues, in particular the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the work of Irish Aid, and to help them to explore the links between their lives and the lives of children in developing countries.

Boba Baluchova from Slovakia worked at Kerry One World Centre as Media & DE Assistant (October, 2012 – January, 2013). Her placement was supported by the EU financing ‘Lifelong Learning’ programme (LLP), Grundtvig sub-programme. She appreciated cooperation and sharing with people on regional level (KOWC staff), but also on national level (NYCI, Dóchas etc.). She says: “Thanks to this assistantship I will be able to implement my own ideas about DE methods, the achieving MDGs and sustainable development into my everyday work, media production and postgradual research back home in Slovakia. What I learnt from KOWC team (new working procedures and experiences) I would use in Slovakia specially during the work with Slovak MDGO Platform’s members.”
