Solidarity Songs: Submit Your Entry!

Solidarity Songs offers young songwriters the chance to win a Zoom portable recorder, as well as  valuable studio recording time and pressed copies of their own work on CD. The songwriting competition aims to highlight the UN's eight Millennium Development Goals and offers young people the opportunity to showcase their creative talent.

Solidarity Songs project partners are KADE , KDYS and ClubHeadBangBang.

Entry criteria

- one song in any genre, based on any one of the MDGs, or the MDGs in general
- to be submitted on CD or by email
- entrants must be aged 21 or younger
- entrants must be resident in Ireland
- melody and lyric must be entrant's original work

- entrants may have another person perform the work

Submitting your song: Email or CD
Send your song, on CD, to: John Buggy, KDYS, Denny St., Tralee, Co. Kerry. You can email your entry in MP3 format (max. size 5MB) to solidarity (at) kade (dot) ie

Songs Showcase
Shortlisted entrants will be invited to perform their original work at the KDYS Café in early 2012. The Songs for Solidarity 2011 winner will be announced at the event.

 

The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)


The eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) – which range from halving extreme poverty to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education, all by the target date of 2015 – form a blueprint agreed to by all the world’s countries and all the world’s leading development institutions.

Goal 1 : Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
Goal 2 : Achieve universal primary education
Goal 3 : Promote gender equality and empower women
Goal 4 : Reduce child mortality rates
Goal 5 : Improve maternal health
Goal 6 : Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases
Goal 7 : Ensure environmental sustainability
Goal 8 : Develop a global partnership for development
