‘A small world’, ‘the Global Village’ and other such terms have been used to describe the global community the world has fast become. Technological advancements such as the Internet have made global communication faster and easier. Cheap travel has turned once imagined far off places a matter of a few hours on air, jetlag and realised dreams. All this has made the teaching and learning about global/ development issues a less daunting and more exciting task.

Development Education provides numerous opportunities to better understand this ‘small world’, its peoples, their interdependence and the local and global issues that affect their lives.

This resource accompanies the KADE Development Education Unit, which aims to assist teachers and other education providers to teach development issues via the UN Millennium Development Goals. The activities in this pack aim to answer the following five questions:

1. What is development?
2. Where is the world’s wealth?
3. What should be done and who should do it? MDGs
4. What will I do? Individual & class projects
5. Beyond the School Projects? Being an Active Citizen
