Castleisland Mayor launches Visions of Africa

Castleisland Mayor Cllr. Bobby O'Connell has launched the Castleisland exhibition of the 2010 Visions of Africa. This annual exhibition features 30 striking images which portray a positive image of Africa. The exhibition runs at Castleisland LIbrary from June 8th - 22nd. The Tralee exhibition was opened by the Mayor of Tralee, Cllr. Terry O’ Brien.

4th Annual DICE Conference
The 4th DICE (Development and Intercultural Education Project) Annual Conference 2010 will take place in Limerick on the 17th and 18th of June 2010.

Each year the conference aims to bring together academics, practitioners, student teachers, NGOs and all others in the education sector, to engage in dialogue and reflect on practice relevant to Development and Intercultural Education.

Mayor launches Visions of Africa 2010

The annual exhibition features 30 striking images which portray a positive image of Africa. See the images at Siamsa Tíre, Tralee from May 18th - 28th or at Castleisland Library from June 8th - 22nd. Entrance is free of charge and all are welcome to visit. The Tralee exhibition was opened by the Mayor of Tralee, Cllr. Terry O’ Brien.

ICTU Biennial Delegate Conference 2009

Congress's biennial Conference visits Tralee. ICTU has been promoting its Development Education project, Global Solidarity, widely at the Conference. The aim of the project is to strengthen Congress' and the affiliated unions' international solidarity work, as well as to play an important role in raising awareness of the causes of exploitation, inequality, poverty and climate change.

Aontas report: Integrating Development Education into Adult Education
Aontas, the National Adult Learnign Organisation, has published a report on Adult Education in Ireland. The report sets out to examine the extent to which development education is understood in the adult and community education sector and to explore how adult educators might be supported in integrating development education into its work and processes using active citizenship as the main focus.

Fairtrade training in Bulgaria
KADE delivered a workshop on teaching about fair trade to 18 Bulgarian teachers in Sofia, on Feb. 17 and 18, as part of a training project to introduce Development Education to educators in the EU accession countries of Bulgaria, Lithuania and Cyprus.

Visions of Africa at Mary Immaculate College

Mr. Peter Power, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs with responsibility for Overseas Development Aid  officially opened the KADE photographic exhibition, ‘Visions of Africa’ in Mary Immaculate College, Limerick on Thursday, February 5 at 7:00 p.m. Mary Immaculate College of Education President Peadar Cremin invited KADE to display the exhibit in the college.

KADE develops education photopack


KADE (Kerry Action For Development Education) launched Development Photopack Volume 1 at IT Tralee on Tuesday November 25th, 2008. “KADE is delighted and proud to be part of this partnership with IT Tralee” declared KADE chairperson, Seán Lyons. Gratefully acknowledging students’ contribution to the work and their consciousness of inequalities in our society, he continued “Students have certainly put the action into development in Kerry.”

Millennium Development Goals poster launched

Kerry Mayor Tom Fleming was presented a copy of with the KADE Millennium Development Goals information poster Monday, Oct 13, 2008 in Council Chambers in Tralee by KADE Chairman Sean Lyons and KADE Education Officer Ciara O’Connor. The poster forms part of KADE’s Co. Kerry awareness campaign about the UN Goals. They will be circulated to every school in Kerry, as well as community development organisations, churches, businesses and posted on the KADE website. The Goals, which relate to basic development  essentials such as education and health, were set by the UN in 2000 with an intended achievement date in 2015.

Global Connections – Interactive workshop on Development Education for Teachers from across Europe

25 teachers and teacher trainers from Cyprus, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Scotland and Ireland participated in a workshop on Development Education in Kaunas/ Lithuania from the 19th until the 23rd of October, 2008. The workshop was part of the EuropeAid funded project ‘Accessing Development Education’, coordinated by Future Worlds Center (Cyprus) in partnership with Youth Career and Advising Centre (Lithuania), ScotDec (Scotland), KADE (Ireland) and C.E.G.A. (Bulgaria). The project’s main aim is to engage educators and schools in Development Education activities and equip them with relevant training and materials, thus making them promoters and multipliers of national campaigns that aim to create awareness about Development and about global interdependencies.

Visions of Africa launch 2008

‘Visions of Africa 2008’ invited amateurs and professionals alike to submit images with a positive portrayal of Africa. A maximum of five images per applicant could be submitted, in high resolution digital format, at least 300 dpi at print size approx 297mm x 210mm (A4). The photographer was asked to include a short biography, personal contact details and a title for every image with a short introduction to each photograph. Photos not including written details were deemed ineligible.
